Actor, mum, influencer and Chris Hemsworth’s better half Elsa Pataky can now add action hero to her long list of credentials after kicking butt in the new Netflix film interceptor.
The Byron Bay-based star has had guest roles in several projects in recent years, but being a mum to her daughter, 10, and twin boys, eight, has taken priority.
But Elsa told Today she had always dreamed of leading an action movie like this and now the kids are a bit older, this was the perfect time to dive in.

“I’ve been waiting for a role like this and it’s better later than never,” Pataky told Today.
She plays US Army Captain JJ Collins, who must use her tactical training and military expertise to fight back when a simultaneous attack threatens the remote interceptor missile station she is in command of.
“I really wanted to portray the US Army girls, they have to go through the military training and they’re really strong,” she said.
Pataky said she had always dreamed of doing a role like this and was up for whatever challenges she threw at her.
“I had bruises on my arms and knees and calluses, but I wanted to do all the fights myself,” she said.
“I wanted to experience every moment – I grew up watching Indiana Jones movies and I wanted to be that female Indiana Jones.”
Pataky said she loved taking the time to be with her kids in recent years, but now they are older it was important to do something for herself.
“I just think – it’s my passion, it’s what I love to do,” she said.
“Do I love being a mum? Absolutely, but I think there’s moments that you need to do something for just you, for just yourself.”

Pataky said she still had moments of mum guilt during filming, but with Hemsworth also serving as an executive producer, she was able to have the kids with her on set.
“It’s challenging because you have that mum guilt, that is just like when you are working, it’s like ‘should I be with them?’ But at some point you need to enjoy what you love to do and I think it was a good thing, “she said.
“I am proud of my kids, as a girl for my daughter to be an example, and say ‘you can do it, you can do whatever you want’ and now, I think as an actress, having this opportunity to do more of these roles is giving more and more of us opportunity to do the kind of traditional male roles in a way. “

If being a mum and action hero isn’t already keeping Pataky busy enough, she’s bringing out a new skincare range called Purely Byron – which launches in June.
“I had a real passion about skincare and natural ingredients and when I went to Byron, I discovered these amazing natural botanicals they have there and how you can use them and they’re very powerful,” she said.
“They are known for their natural botanicals there. We wanted to bring that little spirit of Byron to everybody in the world.”
interceptor premieres on Netflix on June 3.
