On Wednesday Marcus Rashford announced that he got engaged to his childhood sweetheart Lucia Loi.
The couple shared the happy news that took place a day earlier on Instagram in a sweet post showing them sharing a kiss surrounded by roses and candles.
Marcus, 24, simply captioned the picture: “24.05.22,” and added a heart before tagging his wife-to-be.
The pair showed off their relaxed style in the snap as Marcus sported a white t shirt and beige trousers. While Lucia, 24, stunned in jeans and a black crop top.
The couple have been together for eight years and have been in an on-off relationship in that time.
Their relationship went through its challenges in May 2021 the childhood sweethearts went their separate ways due to “pressures and strains of the Covid pandemic and lockdowns”.
However, in January this year they confirmed that they had reunited with Lucia sharing a snap to her Instagram story of a man with a tattooed hand holding a boot looking suspiciously like the footballing ace.
At the time a source told The Sun: “The intent for them to get back together has always been there.
“The break was good for their relationship as it offered them both space and assurance that they wanted to make this work move forward.”
They added: “They have a shared history. She is one of the people who knows him best. They got back together before Christmas and are taking things slowly. ”
Marcus and Lucia met while attending the Ashton on Mersey School in Sale, Greater Manchester, as youngsters.
In 2020, The Sun reported that Lucia worked as a PR account executive for Manchester-based PR company, Sugar.
While the couple often keeps their relationship under wraps, earlier this year Marcus posted a series of snaps of the duo with the caption: “Through thick & thin.”
According to sources, the newly engaged couple are “over the moon” at their happy news.
A source told The Sun: “They’re over the moon. Marcus has been planning this for a while and wanted to make it special.
“They went out in LA for a romantic night together on Tuesday and he proposed there and then. It was extremely romantic.
“They celebrated afterwards with a group of close friends – including his Manchester United teammate Jesse Lingard.”
During his brief reported split from Lucia, athlete Marcus kept himself busy by working tirelessly in his school meals campaign with all children, regardless of background and ability to pay, could get them for free.
As a result of his hard work, Marcus earned a well-deserved MBE from Prince William in November 2021
